Canada’s global leadership in the mining sector is based on innovation in safety and sustainability and a commitment to responsible business practices. Canada values and supports this sector, which contributes significant, well-paying jobs to the Canadian middle class and is a major driver of Canada’s economic prosperity.
The Honourable Jim Carr, Minister of International Trade Diversification, is in Toronto, Ontario, today to co-host Canada Day at the Prospectors & Developers Association of Canada (PDAC) 2019 Convention with the Honourable Amarjeet Sohi, Minister of Natural Resources.
At the event, Minister Carr will promote Canada as the world’s leading mining nation and provide insights into Canadian leadership on responsible business conduct, partnerships with Indigenous communities and initiatives to diversify Canada’s trading partners and those participating in trade activities. He will also highlight the advantages of investing in Canada to ensure that the Canadian mining sector remains a source of jobs, prosperity and opportunity.
While at the PDAC convention, Minister Carr will hold a round-table discussion with the Mining Association of Canada and visit some of Canada’s most innovative mining sector companies active in international markets. He will meet with several ministers from countries where Canada has significant mining interests, including Chile, Ethiopia, Guyana, Malaysia, Mongolia, Peru and Turkey.
