Morning Brief: Trudeau rejects Zelenskyy request for no-fly zone – iPolitics

— Trudeau rejects Zelenskyy request: Prime Minister Justin Trudeau gave a press conference in Warsaw before departing Europe today. Yesterday, he rejected a direct request from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to authorize a no-fly zone over Ukraine. He said the request, and his own response, was “heartbreaking,” but that he wanted to avoid triggering an escalation from Russia.

Zelenskyy has nonetheless accepted an invitation to virtually address Canada’s Parliament. He will do so on Tuesday.

— Domestic extremism ‘here to stay’: Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s national security advisor, Jody Thomas, told an Ottawa security conference that domestic terrorism is an issue in Canada and is “here to stay.” She also said the leaders of the truck convoy protests “no doubt” sought to overthrow the government.
