Audit finds alleged illegal acts by former board and executive director
PETERBOROUGH– The Nogojiwanong Friendship Centre has a new board of directors to rebuild its community image after its former board stepped down in April.
The centre is closed, its staff laid off and a damning audit by McColl Turner Chartered Accountants says money was mismanaged under the previous leadership. A new board took over June 25.
The mass resignation of the previous board came after community members raised concerns about the well-being and the leadership of the friendship centre. In February, a petition with those concerns was circulated and sent to the Ontario Federation of Indigenous Friendship Centres, the local friendship centre’s funder.
