Uqqummiut will choose new MLA in time for spring sitting
Uqqummiut residents, who lost their MLA to an expulsion from the legislative assembly last month, and who had only spotty representation prior to that, will get to choose a new MLA in a by-election set for Feb. 9, 2015.
A news release, directed at the residents of Clyde River and Qikiqtarjuaq, who make up the central Baffin Uqqummiut constituency, was issued by Premier Peter Taptuna’s press secretary Nov. 5.
Nunavut MLAs ousted the member for Uqqummiut, Samuel Nuqingaq, after repeated absences from the legislative assembly and other behavioural issues since the November 2013 election.
