Ontario Native Women’s Association (ONWA) Offices Temporarily Closed
The Ontario Native Women’s Association (ONWA) offices across Ontario will be temporarily closed as of March 16th, 2020 in response to the COVID-19 virus. All programming will be suspended until further notice. As of March 11, coronavirus—the infection that causes the illness COVID-19—has been declared a pandemic by the World Health Organization. ONWA feels strongly that this decision is necessary in order to put the safety of Indigenous women, their families, community partners and employees first.
OWNA staff will continue to work in remote situations which ensure their safety. We will be using this time to build resources for the community that responds to this current crisis.
“Our top priority includes supporting the safety and wellbeing of our employees and the community members we serve. We as service providers must look at creative solutions to ensure that community members can access vital services while also protecting our staff from this pandemic. We are very aware that ONWA often serves the most vulnerable to any pandemic and we need to mitigate this risk.” stated ONWA Executive Director Cora-Lee McGuire-Cyrette.

Tips to Limit transmission of COVID-19
- Wash your hands often with soap and water or alcohol-based hand sanitizer
- Sneeze and cough into your sleeve
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth
- Avoid contact with people who are sick
- Stay home if you are sick
