The ongoing activities of the territorial government have just become a little easier to follow, thanks to one local advocate for openness and accessibility in government.
Yellowknife resident David Wasylciw launched OpenNWT on Oct. 27, an online collection of documents from the territorial government strategically designed to be easily navigated by not only members of the government and media, but any citizen who wishes to stay informed.
“It came out of frustration of trying to find information,” Wasylciw, a former policy analyst, said. “I’ve worked in the government and outside the government doing research, and just trying to stay informed over what’s being discussed can be a real pain with the current format of things, the current tools. I’d seen examples like this one from other jurisdictions around Canada and around the world and I thought there’s no good reason for it not to come to the NWT as well.”
