PLATO Testing Collaborates with Suncor to Support Development of Indigenous Software Testers in Calgary

Press Release

CALGARY (May 30, 2022) – PLATO Testing is collaborating with Canada’s leading integrated energy company, Suncor, to deliver its innovative software tester training course to 15 Indigenous students at the end of May.

The PLATO training program provides in-class instruction followed by a hands-on work placement with one of their industry-leading clients. Following the in-class training, Suncor will be offering five internship placements so that students have the opportunity to apply their newly acquired software testing skills.

“Suncor has been a great partner in what we were doing,” said PLATO Founder and CEO, Keith McIntosh. “Our train-and-employ model only works when we have the right partnerships in place with organizations who are committed to reconciliation with Indigenous people; time and again Suncor has proven itself to be one of those partners.”

The PLATO Indigenous Software Tester Training course offers a five-month in-class training program followed by a hands-on internship with leading Canadian companies. The program offers students the skills, education, and experience needed to become successful software testers. Graduates of the program are guaranteed a full-time job with PLATO with a well-paying salary, paid vacation, and full benefits.

“As the value of digital and technology skills continues to rise, Suncor is excited to partner once again with PLATO to offer work experience for Indigenous students following their training,” said Janice Murphy, General Manager of Digital Solution Delivery, Suncor. “The internships provide dynamic and rewarding work environments. For us, that includes opportunities to apply digital technology to help transform our organization.”

PLATO has significant plans for growth in and around Calgary over the next year due to an increasing demand for technology services in the region. Collaboration with organizations like Suncor ensure that First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples have an opportunity to develop the skills and the experience they need to launch careers in the technology sector.
