Renewed partnership in Akwesasne – Standard Freeholder

Two aboriginal youths impressively opened a ceremony recognizing the latest partnership with the Quebec government by speaking the Mohawk language on Monday.

It’s that kind of cultural progress that Grand Chief Mike Mitchell said will be assisted by a renewed funding agreement with Quebec’s native affairs ministry.

Quebec Native Affairs Minister Geoffrey Kelley presented Mitchell with a $723,522 cheque that will help spur the success for 12 Akwesasne businesses — eight of which are new.

The funding is an extension of a financial assistance program that began in 2007.
