Deck graphic depicts 1892 leave pass

On Sept. 25, 1892, a government agent granted Prairie Big Head permission to leave the Sarcee Indian Reservation to sell livestock. If he did not return by sunset, or if he sold more than his allotment of 10 chickens, he faced three months of imprisonment or a $500 fine. It’s unclear what happened to him that day, or whether he made it back before nightfall. But his pass survived, preserved in Calgary’s Glenbow Museum. Last week, it re-emerged as a graphic on a skateboard designed by the Regina-based Colonialism Board Co.

“I just wanted to give a good quality product with something tied to it, something educational,” founder Micheal Langan said.
