Second International Award for De Beers Canada Communications Team

For the second straight year, De Beers Canada’s three-member External & Corporate Affairs team has received the Communications Team of the Year Award during the North American Excellence Awards. The international program honours outstanding achievements of communications and public relations professionals.
The award was presented in Dublin, Ireland on December 6 during the European Excellence Awards Gala. It recognizes the work by the De Beers Canada team over the past year, including:
- Celebrating a decade of historic achievement at Victor Mine in northern Ontario at an August anniversary celebration;
- Developing employee and external communications materials around the planned closure of Victor Mine;
- Hosting the De Beers Inspired Ice International Ice Carving Competition in Yellowknife, NWT; and,
- Supporting an internal campaign to improve inclusion and diversity inside De Beers Canada and helping launch a major scholarship program for women to get into Science, Technology, Engineering and Math education at the University of Calgary and University of Waterloo.
“Earning this recognition for the second consecutive year is a reflection of the volume and quality of work our team generates to provide internal and external communications for De Beers Canada,” said Tom Ormsby, Head of External & Corporate Affairs.
The team’s work to communicate Victor Mine closure to employees, governments and communities was a runner up in the Issues & Reputation Communications category.
Altogether, the North American Excellence Awards recognized professional communications excellence in 21 categories. The Awards are hosted by Communication Director, the magazine for corporate communications and public relations, and is part of a worldwide awards program, with similar events in Africa, Asia-Pacific, Europe and Latin America.
