Before heading to Toronto to promote his government’s efforts to make Canada a world leader in Artificial Intelligence at a tech conference this afternoon, Innovation Minister François-Philippe Champagne is booked in for a one-hour session with INDUSTRY AND TECHNOLOGY members to go over his ministerial mandate, with his acting deputy minister, Francis Bilodeau, and other senior departmental officials also expected to be at the table. Over at PROCEDURE AND HOUSE AFFAIRS, MPs will take a closer look at Conservative MP Alex Ruff’s backbench proposal to streamline the process for MPs and senators to apply for the necessary security clearance to access classified documents in order to fulfill their parliamentary duties, starting with a briefing from House of Commons law clerk Michael Bédard, which will be followed by back-to-back discussions with senior officials from the Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS), Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), Treasury Board Secretariat and the Privy Council Office.
