SK Government: 3,300 New Jobs Created Year-Over-Year

Saskatchewan’s employment increased by 3,300 jobs from September 2017, largely driven by growth in the private sector.
Saskatchewan had 575,300 people employed in September 2018, according to data released by Statistics Canada today. Seasonally adjusted employment was up by 1,800 from August 2018. Full-time jobs increased by 1,000 from September 2017 and part-time jobs increased by 2,300.
“For the second consecutive month, Saskatchewan has seen solid employment gains,” Immigration and Career Training Minister Jeremy Harrison said. “Our government has been working hard to steadily increase jobs, to strengthen Saskatchewan’s labour force, and attract more skilled workers to our province.”
Saskatchewan’s unemployment rate was 6.4 per cent (seasonally adjusted).
Other September highlights include:
- Major year-over-year job gains were reported for educational services up 4,900; accommodation and food services up 2,800; agriculture up 2,500; and health care and social assistance up 2,000.
- Private sector created 6,600 new jobs year-over-year.
- Female employment was up by 1,900 jobs from September of 2017.
- Off-reserve Aboriginal employment was up 100 jobs (+0.2 per cent) for six consecutive months of year-over-year increases.
- Aboriginal youth employment was up 200 jobs (+2.2 per cent) for six consecutive months of year-over-year increases.
