Smiths Falls library builds First Nations section in honour of reconciliation – InsideOttawaValley

The Smiths Falls Public Library is doing its part to empower local residents and propel them on a journey of learning from their First Nations neighbours so they can fully participate in future reconciliation events.

Karen Schecter, the chief librarian at the Beckwith Street facility has been working with Christine Cutler of Smiths Falls to construct the new information section of First Nations, the treaty and residential schools at the library, which currently houses several books, a DVD and CD.

Cutler originally asked town council in January to purchase an education kit, but said she is pleased to see the section taking shape. She said access to solid information might help local residents move toward their own personal journey of reconciliation.
