Monthly estimates of business openings and closures, January 2025
In January, the business opening rate dropped 0.3 percentage points to 4.8% after holding steady at 5.1% over the previous two months. The opening rate was 0.1 percentage points above its 2015-to-2019 historical average. The business closure rate contracted 0.2 percentage points to 4.9% in January 2025, following a 0.1 percentage point increase in the previous month. In January, the closure rate was 0.3 percentage points above its historical average of 4.6%.
Food services and drinking places, February 2025
Total sales in the food services and drinking places subsector decreased 0.6% in February to $8.2 billion.
Oilseed crushing and major grain deliveries statistics, March 2025
Oilseed processors crushed 1.0 million tonnes of canola in March. Oil production totalled 436 100 tonnes, while meal production totalled 607 300 tonnes.
Wholesale trade: Early indicator, March 2025
Statistics Canada is providing an advance estimate of sales in the wholesale trade sector for March. The advance results for March indicate that wholesale sales (excluding petroleum, petroleum products, and other hydrocarbons and excluding oilseed and grain) decreased 0.3%. The decline reflects lower sales in five of the seven subsectors.
