Payroll employment, earnings and hours, and job vacancies, April 2023
The number of employees receiving pay or benefits from their employer—measured as “payroll employees” in the Survey of Employment, Payrolls and Hours—decreased by 25,100 (-0.1%) in April, excluding federal government public administration.
National tourism indicators, first quarter 2023
Tourism spending in Canada grew 2.6% in the first quarter, due to an increase of 3.5% in domestic tourism spending by Canadian residents. Tourism gross domestic product (+2.3%) and jobs attributable to tourism (+2.7%) also rose in the first quarter.
Monthly civil aviation statistics, April 2023
Major Canadian airlines carried 6.4 million passengers on scheduled and charter services in April, up 36.4% from the same month in 2022, but 9.7% below the April 2019 level, before the COVID-19 pandemic.
Aircraft movement statistics: Major and select small airports, April 2023
In April, Canada’s major and select small airports recorded a total of 453,589 aircraft movements. This was an increase of 6.7% from April 2022, but 11.1% lower than in April 2019, before the COVID-19 pandemic.
Mushroom Growers’ Survey, 2022
Canadian mushroom growers sold 153,321 short tons of mushrooms in 2022, up 0.9% compared with 2021. The total value of mushrooms sold rose 6.2% to $694.4 million, mainly due to higher prices for both fresh and processed mushrooms.
