TIMMINS – Speaking for the business community in our city, The Timmins Chamber of Commerce has asked the federal government to provide better labour market information, to go back to the long form census, and to do more to stimulate mining growth.
Those were some of the ideas presented to federal Treasury Board president Tony Clement on Monday, by Timmins chamber president Al Thorne.
It is all part of the growing advocacy role adopted by the local chamber in recent years; something that has won provincial and national endorsements from other chambers representing the wider business community in Ontario, and across Canada.
Clement was the lunch guest at the chamber boardroom. The presentation from the Timmins chamber was given in the hope that some of the ideas will be discussed at the Conservative’s Northern Ontario caucus with the possibility the ideas will make it to the national caucus for budget discussion.
