(May 1, 2015 – Iqaluit, Nunavut) Nunavut Tunngavik Inc. (NTI) today announced that an out-of-court settlement agreement in NTI’s lawsuit against the Crown (Government of Canada) for failure to implement various promises made in the 1993 Nunavut Land Claims Agreement (NLCA) will be signed in Iqaluit on May 4, 2015 at 10 am.
The settlement agreement will be signed by NTI President Cathy Towtongie, Aboriginal Affairs Minister Bernard Valcourt and GN Premier Peter Taptuna at 10 am in the NTI boardroom in Iqaluit. NTI Vice-President James Eetoolook and Environment Minister Leona Aglukkaq will also be in attendance.
The settlement agreement comes into effect immediately upon signing. The lawsuit that was launched in December 2006 in the Nunavut Court of Justice will be terminated.
Details of the settlement agreement will be released during the signing ceremony.
