Lawsuits against pipeline, challenges and related research is keeping law offices busy
VICTORIA — For all the controversy associated with the Enbridge Northern Gateway pipeline, proponents have been tireless in touting the project as a route to economic development and job creation.
They’ve already proven right in one respect, though not the way they intended.
“Legal onslaught greets pipeline,” as the headline had it Wednesday, atop the Vancouver Sun story by my colleague Gordon Hoekstra. “Challenge by First Nations group brings total number of lawsuits to 19.”
Nineteen lawsuits! Thank what that will entail in terms of billable hours and disbursements for research, experts on retainer, examinations for discovery and transcript preparation, and clerical work at myriad B.C. law firms.
