Waterfront land rightfully returned to Serpent River First Nation –

In what it describes as “an act of reconciliation and economic growth,” the city of Elliot Lake, Ontario, is giving a small piece of property to the nearby Serpent River First Nation.

The neighbouring First Nation will receive a 1.6-hectare tract of waterfront land that the city council decided to give back on Monday.

In 2003, the municipality received the land parcel from the Ministry of Natural Resources of Ontario.

The property transfer, according to Elliot Lake Mayor Dan Marchisella, is a significant step toward rapprochement and relationship-building with Serpent River First Nation.
