We’koqma’q First Nation Reaches Agreement With DFO On Moderate Livelihood Fishing – Huddle.Today

DFO has reached an understanding with We’koqma’q First Nation so their members can fish and sell their lobster catches.

It comes after amendments to the Netukulimk Livelihood Fisheries Plan supported by a DFO-issued authorization. The Potlotek First Nation agreed to follow the plan after amendments last month.

The amended plan has harvesters fish during the established 2022 commercial seasons in LFA’s 27 and 31A with a trap limit of 210 in each.

DFO says We’koqma’q’s access to the fishery will be offset by using existing banked licences and unfished traps in the LFAs.
