Plans by the Wewaikai First Nation to develop a major recreation facility at their Quinsam Crossing site will have great benefits for the surrounding communities.
The First Nation plans to build four soccer pitches – two of which will be of artificial turf and hence all weather – and four ball diamonds all on one site on their land on Willis Road.
It will make possible the attraction of major tournaments in both sports, which will bring tourism and hospitality business to the city. And with that many people visiting for a two or three day tournament, it will also put the city and its amenities in the spotlight of people from around the province.
Ironically, the announcement of the playing field development comes after the city has embarked on its own plans for an artificial playing field at Robron.
