What are you celebrating on National Indigenous Day? – The Hill Times

I submit that we may celebrate. We honour the resolve of Indigenous leaders and communities who are continuing to fight the right to survive, to live, to thrive on this land.

OTTAWA—Tk’emlúps te Secwépemc announced the rediscovery of 215 unmarked graves a year ago. Over the past year, a number of other institutions for the removal of Indigenous children (otherwise known as residential schools) have been searched: Brandon, Man.; Marieval, Sask.; Kootenay, B.C.; Kuper Island, B.C.; St. Joseph’s at Williams Lake, B.C.; Kamsack, Fort Pelly, and Gordon in Saskatchewan; Grouard in Alberta; and Sandy Bay and Fort Alexander in Manitoba. This list doesn’t include the findings of unmarked graves prior to 2021.
