2015 Dehcho Grand Chief Nominations Notice

The 2015 Annual General Assembly is an election year for the office of the Dehcho First Nations Grand Chief. DFN delegation will be electing the Grand Chief as per the 2008 AGA decision and direction.

Dehcho First Nations Elections Committee has listed the following criteria for the Dehcho First Nations Grand Chief as follows:

1. Demonstrated understanding of local regional, territorial and national political arenas including a thorough understanding of the Dehcho Process
2. Previous Leadership experience with a Dene/Metis organization would be an asset
3. Fluency in the Dehcho Dene Zhatie would be an asset
4. Positive and responsible lifestyle
5. Strong demonstrated communication skills, both written and verbal
6. No person can run for office of the Grand Chief who has taken responsibility for the obligations of a director, officer, employee or a member of the Executive of the Dehcho First Nations, unless they have taken a leave of absence thirty days prior to the election

The term of the Grand Chief for the Dehcho First Nations is three years.

Each candidate is asked to submit a nomination package which includes:

1. Resume and two personal reference verifying positive responsible lifestyle
2. DFN nominations forms, which must be signed by one of the following:
   1. Past or present Chief or President
   2. Past or present Councillor or Board Member of DFN organization
   3. DFN Elder

3. A copy of an RCMP Criminal Records Check must be provided with the nominations packages. If such person has been found to have committed a prohibited practice or has been convicted of a violent or indictable offense within the past five years they will be screened out immediately.

DFN Elections Committee will screen the nomination packages. Incomplete nominations packages will be screened out.

Faxed nominations forms will be accepted prior to the deadline, original forms MUST be provided to the Dehcho First Nations office prior to the 2015 Annual Assembly.
