PUBLIC SAFETY members will continue their House-ordered investigation into the rise in gang-related gun crime during a panel discussion with representatives from the Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police, the Edmonton Police Service, and the Toronto Police Service. Also on the witness list for this morning: University of Saskatchewan assistant professor Robert Henry, McMaster University assistant clinical professor Caillin Langmann and Stan TuInukuafe, co-founder of STR8 UP: 10,000 Little Steps to Healing Inc. Over at JUSTICE, MPs kick off a comprehensive review of the Protection of Communities and Exploited Persons Act, which was brought in by the previous Conservative government in response to a Supreme Court decision that found the then-current laws against prostitution to be unconstitutional. First up: A briefing session from senior departmental lawyers, followed by a trio of expert witnesses: Ottawa Police Service Sgt. Carolyn Botting, Canadian Alliance for Sex Work Law Reform Jennifer Clamen and Stella, l’amie de Maimie executive director Sandra Wesley. (3:30 – 5:30 PM)
