WHITEHORSE – The City invites First Nations, Whitehorse citizens, community and government organizations to help update our Sustainability Plan.
Over the last 6 years, the City has defined sustainability through new policies and clear action on solid waste, climate change, transportation, and more recently by exploring how to help address affordable housing needs.
Building on this foundation, the City is now updating its Sustainability Plan. “We’re looking at goals and targets for the whole community, and an action strategy for City operations,” said Mayor Dan Curtis. “We want to pursue ambitious goals for Whitehorse, and identify the best ways the City can contribute to achieve them,” Curtis said.
The updated plan will be created through discussions with the public, stakeholders, government partners, City staff and Council. “The success of this plan depends on the involvement of people from every part of our community. We want to make it as easy as possible for people to participate,” said Deputy Mayor Kirk Cameron.
Sustainability Champions will be out and about in the community between Oct 1 and Oct 20, at the Canada Games Centre, Baked Café, City facilities, and other high-traffic locations. People can also fill out an online survey.
Pick up a postcard at a local business or City facility to find out how to get involved, or visit whitehorse.ca/sustainabilityplan to complete the survey or find the Sustainability Champions.
