A Saskatchewan MP is asking the federal government to freeze funding to the Metis Nation of Saskatchewan (MNS) after a court ruling against actions by MNS president Robert Doucette.
Conservative MP Rob Clarke (Desnethe-Missinippi-Churchill) called on the federal minister of Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development Canada (AANDC) to conduct a review of the operations, activities and expenditures of the MNS, which has a long history of animosity among differing factions.
“It is my hope, now that the courts have ruled on this case, and have identified that there are serious problems with governance, that the minister will conduct this review and freeze all further funding until such time as proper governance procedures and a complete and legally elected board have been re-established,” Clarke wrote in a news release.
He was not available for comment Saturday.
