Newly-elected Fort William First Nation Chief Peter Collins began his two-year term Wednesday with a press conference where he laid out a list of priorities that included resolving the festering issue of the James Street Bridge.
The CN Rail-owned Kam River crossing that provides direct access from Thunder Bay to the First Nation has been closed to vehicle traffic since a fire nearly a year and a half ago.
Collins intends to hold direct meetings with CN officials in an effort to reopen the bridge’s vehicular traffic lanes. He made a point of saying the meetings will not include officials from the City of Thunder Bay.
