Progress in the North and the Arctic will only be achieved by respecting the process set out in the Nunavut Agreement and by working collaboratively with the Inuit who live there
MacKay’s recent National Post op-ed on the approval process surrounding Baffinland Iron Mines’ request to increase its output glosses over the fact that the project is primarily on Inuit-owned land and the production increase proposal renewal is therefore subject to a necessary review with Inuit rights holders (Ignoring the North, Peter Mackay, Oct. 4).
Perhaps an “Ottawa knows best” way of decision-making for the North was the norm when Peter MacKay and the Conservative party was in government. However, that is not how the current Liberal government operates.
