One exchange reminded Jessie Denny why she always yearned to be a lawyer.
The 28-year-old Eskasoni native had not yet been practising a year at Sydney’s Nova Scotia Legal Aid office when she came face to face with a Mi’kmaq woman.
“She was feeling very alone, and I remember just how relieved she was that she could speak to someone in her own language,” Denny recalled.
“She really had someone who knew where she was coming from, someone who understood her.
“So that’s been my proudest moment since I started practising law.”
