Pembroke celebrates National Indigenous Day at Waterfront Park – Pembroke Today

Sunday June 21st marked National Indigenous day and here in Pembroke many gathered at the Pembroke Waterfront  Park to mark the day.

Observed each year on June 21, the day coincides with the summer solstice, which holds cultural and spiritual significance for many Indigenous communities across Canada. The annual celebration features cultural events, traditional teachings, music, dance and opportunities for learning and reflection.

National Indigenous Peoples Day was officially established by the federal government in 1996 following calls from Indigenous organizations and leaders for greater recognition of Indigenous cultures and heritage.
