SASKATOON — First Nations officials hoping to build a casino, hotel and convention centre in Lloydminster are placing another bet in southern Saskatchewan.
Little Pine First Nation Chief Wayne Semaganis has been scouting possible locations for a similar $30-million development in Estevan.
“Estevan is booming. It’s a good market,” Semaganis said.
He has discussed his proposal with the mayor of Estevan, and expects to meet with the entire city council and chamber of commerce, on a date yet to be determined.
As a result of the Little Pine First Nation’s proposal, a non-binding question on casino development will be included in a council byelection April 23.
“We’re definitely interested if they have the appetite for it,” Semaganis said.
