Floodplain project taps Indigenous knowledge, drawing international eyes – London Free Press

A new floodplain mapping project that draws on Indigenous knowledge is drawing attention from across Canada and around the world to a London-area First Nation.

Around 100 people tuned in last week to the launch of a five-part webinar series to learn how Chippewas of the Thames First Nation, southwest of London, and its partners developed a collaborative approach to floodplain mapping.

“We had somebody from Greece, from the City of New York, from all across Canada” at the first webinar on Wednesday, said Mark Peacock of the Lower Thames Valley Conservation Authority, one of the lead partners on the project.
