Scugog Island First Nation to challenge Ontario in court after alleged failure to consult
The Mississaugas of Scugog Island First Nation (MSIFN) has pledged to challenge the province’s new online gambling market in court after alleging the government failed to hold formal consultations with Indigenous governments about the impact of the gaming model.
On Jan. 28, the province announced that iGaming Ontario, the new Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario subsidiary that will run the online gambling system, will be up and running as of April 4. As part of the rollout, the province will let private gaming websites that have qualified through a licensing process start taking wagers.
