Many aboriginal women are unaware of the opportunities that exist in the skilled trades and that needs to change, says a Native Women’s Association of Canada (NWAC) official.
Beverly Blanchard of NWAC recently gave a presentation as part of a Diversity in the Skilled Trades: Recruiting and Retaining Aboriginal Women webinar, hosted by the Canadian Apprenticeship Forum (CAF).
She says encouraging aboriginal women to pursue careers in the trades is an excellent way to address the skills shortage, but there are a number of factors to consider when it comes to recruitment.
