Indigenous communities turning away from dirty forms of energy toward solar – Calgary Journal

Rain is a curious element. It feeds and nourishes the earth but can also cause as much damage as it does good. So much rain fell in April 2011 it damaged the pipes in the Rainbow Pipe System owned by Plains Midstream Canada ULC, causing them to fail.

It was the largest spill seen in Alberta in 35 years. Oil spurted, poisoning the ground and water sources around it with every black drop. The sheen of the oil on the ground caused a rainbow effect.

Rainbows are a sign of promise and hope that better things will come. This one, though, only indicated destruction and hardship.
