Sarah Leo says mining deal violates Labrador Inuit Land Claims Agreement
The announcement of yet another amendment to the Voisey’s Bay Development Agreement came as a surprise to Nunatsiavut President Sarah Leo, who says her government was never consulted on the deal.
“Voisey’s Bay is in our backyard, and for that reason there’s an entire chapter in our land claims agreement devoted solely to this development,” she said in a statement, issued at 5 p.m. Tuesday.
The land claim agreement does, in fact, include an entire section regarding revenues from Voisey’s Bay.
