A day after Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced that he had formally invoked the Emergencies Act to deal with the ongoing cross-country protests and border blockades, his government has provided more details on exactly how it intends to use its sweeping, if time-limited new powers.
Under the newly published temporary regulations — which will be in effect for the duration of the emergency order — “bringing children to the antigovernment blockades that have immobilized downtown Ottawa and shuttered border crossings … could net protesters a fine of up to $5,000 or five years in prison,” the Star reported last night.
