A day after the House of Commons voted to support Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s unprecedented decision to invoke the Emergencies Act in response to cross-country anti-COVID mandate protest, the Senate is set to kick off a separate — but equally high-stakes — debate this morning. (9 AM)
As per a motion adopted yesterday, senators will gather — both in person and via webcam — this morning to begin what is expected to be an extended discussion over whether to sign off on the emergency order, which, under the Act, has to be formally confirmed by both the House and Senate to remain in place.
