Williams Treaties First Nations letter states ‘Kawartha Lakes First Nations’ doesn’t exist
Kawartha Lakes council and area First Nations have taken a stand against a Cameron-area resident’s long-standing claim that he is Indigenous.
For several months, William (Bill) Denby has made numerous deputations to council, laying claim to Indigenous heritage.
He has called out Mayor Doug Elmslie, councillors and even staff claiming they have “no authority” and no claim to any operations on the land he identifies as Kawartha Lakes First Nation, with him as its chief.
However, while Denby’s efforts at city hall were once considered disruptive by council and staff, Elmslie alleges his actions have been escalating in recent weeks.
