As the tide goes out on the money available for the Labrador ferry service announced in the recent provincial budget, it might actually prove to be good news for Nunatsiavut Marine — a component of the Nunatsiavut Group of Cos.
The group is the business arm of the Nunatsiavut Government and the marine sector currently holds contracts for ferry services on the Labrador coast, a large number of communities of which are Inuit.
The company and government was crushed to learn a few months ago Nunatsiavut Marine wasn’t in the running for a 15-year contract renewal for the ferry services. The only two companies floated as possibilities were Oceanex and the Woodward Group of Cos.
