OHSWEKEN – Seven Liberal candidates in the next federal election sat in uncomfortable silence as they listened to a series of speakers relate personal experiences illustrating a compendium of unresolved ills at Six Nations.
They also took a tour of various housing projects and other facilities on Thursday.
At the end of the public forum that attracted 40 residents to a hall in the Grand River Employment and Training building, Liberal aboriginal affairs critic Carolyn Bennett, Brantford-Brant’s Danielle Takacs, Joan Mouland in Haldimand-Norfolk, Filomena Tassi in a Hamilton West-Ancaster-Dundas, Jennifer Stebbing in Flamborough-Glanbrook, and Karina Gould from Burlington admitted they learned a lot, and said any future federal government has a lot of work on its hands.
Brandi Martin explained a car share program that some organizers are setting up but are running into obstacles getting successfully off the ground. They have set up car share because transportation is a major problem on the territory, Martin said.
