Economic advisors not concerned about delays
Work on the Inuvik to Tuktoyaktuk highway is not as far along as crews hoped they’d be by the end of the second construction season, but GNWT representatives say they are “cautiously optimistic” they will meet the expected completion date of 2017-2018.
MLAs and members of the Standing Committee on Economic Development and Infrastructure (SCEDI) visited construction sites on either end of the all-weather gravel road the week of Mar. 20, where they were told that just 55 km of the 120-km stretch has been completed.
Over two seasons on the Inuvik side of the future highway, Northwind Industries Ltd. has completed 25 km of road. Meanwhile in Tuk, Gruben’s Transport Ltd. has finished about 30 km.
