Brant MPP Dave Levac and Brant MP Phil McColeman say they are looking for ways for the provincial and federal governments to join the Save the Evidence fundraising campaign.
The campaign, based at the Woodland Cultural Centre, is aiming to raise $1 million in a first phase to replace the roof of the former Mohawk Institute, which served as a native residential school. The campaign also seeks to transform into a museum and interpretative centre the building on Erie Avenue.
So far, Six Nations elected council has pledged $220,000, which has been matched by Brantford city council. A separate community fundraising effort in the city also is being set up.
Levac said in an interview this week that he has forwarded information about the Save the campaign to Aboriginal Affairs Minister David Zimmer, Reza Moridi, Minister of Training, Colleges and Universities, and Premier Kathleen Wynne.
