In November 2021, Niigaaniin Services submitted a proposal to the Ministry of Government and Consumer Services to operate a Service Ontario Franchise as the current procurement process to obtain a Service Ontario franchise has expired, without replacement. The Ministry is working to modernize Service Ontario delivery.
On January 10, 2022, Chairperson Brent Bissaillion of the North Shore Tribal Council (NSTC) requested a meeting with Sault Ste. Marie MPP, the Honourable Ross Romano to discuss how Indigenous people, on and off reserve, interact with Service Ontario.
On February 2, 2022, Niigaaniin received the following rebuffing the request for a meeting about this proposal.
