NOVA donation helps support YMCA’s Aboriginal youth initiative – Lambton Shield

August 12, 2015

$25k will support unique blend of outdoor adventure, community involvement and skill development

NOVA Chemicals has joined the Sarnia-Lambton YMCA in its vision to support healthy communities with a donation of $25,000, specifically to help youth leadership programs to Aboriginal youth.

The donation is through the YMCA Leadership Initiatives program, offered to youth aged 14-17 years. Organizers say the program is a unique blend of outdoor adventure, community involvement and skill development that helps build increased self-awareness, leadership and problem solving skills, communication and teamwork.

Jim Janzen, YMCA president and CEO, accepted the donation on behalf of the organization.

“We’re proud of our YMCA Leadership Challenge Centre and the successful youth leadership programs offered and are very grateful for NOVA Chemicals’ generous donation to this program. This is the second year NOVA has provided this support, which has allowed us to continue offering this unique opportunity to Aboriginal youth at no charge.”
