OPG to Host Aboriginal Trade Fair

Clarington – Ontario Power Generation will host an Aboriginal trade fair in collaboration with the Durham-GTA Chapter of Partners on Aboriginal Inclusion (PAID). The Day in the Trades fair will take place at the Darlington Energy Complex this Saturday, Nov. 7.

“This is a fantastic opportunity for young Aboriginal people to hear firsthand from building trade union representatives, employers and contractors about potential careers in the skilled trades,” said Ted Gruetzner OPG’s Vice President of Corporate and Aboriginal Relations. “We’re proud to work with PAID to improve recruiting and training of Aboriginal people for the construction industry. “Our aim is to showcase the strength of partnerships with Aboriginals and industry representatives,” said Gavin Lawrence, Project Coordinator of the Durham-GTA PAID. “Building trade unions, construction companies, employers and employment specialists are committed to Aboriginal inclusion within their organizations.”

Day in the Trades will take place Saturday, Nov. 7, 2015 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Darlington Energy Complex, 1855 Energy Drive in Courtice.

• Aboriginal youth are the fastest growing demographic in Canada. The population is growing twice as fast as the general Canadian population.

• In September, the Canadian Council for Aboriginal Business (CCAB) awarded OPG a silver certification for its achievements in Aboriginal relations.
