Northwest B.C. Indigenous chief loses criminal contempt appeal in pipeline case – Trail Times

Chief Dsta’hyl (also known as Adam Gagnon) has lost his appeal of a 2024 criminal contempt conviction.

Dsta’hyl, a Wet’suwet’en wing chief of the Sa Yikh House of the Likhts’amisyu (Fireweed) Clan was charged in 2021 of violating an injunction to prevent people from impeding work on the Coastal GasLink pipeline.

According to the Supreme Court of British Columbia, between October 17 and 26, 2021, Chief Dsta’hyl knowingly and wilfully contravened what is commonly referred to as the Coastal GasLink Injunction by impeding work on the company’s pipeline project within traditional Wet’suwet’en territory.
