SAULT STE. MARIE – The Ontario government tabled a $132-billion budget Thursday that leans heavily on infrastructure spending over the next decade, and eliminates the province’s $8.5-billion deficit in two years.
Liberal Finance Minister Charles Sousa’s spring budget, presented in the Ontario legislature Thursday afternoon, commits $130-billion in infrastructure funding over the next 10 years, but increases program spending by about 1.4% in fiscal 2015-16.
“The good news is that we’re on track to balance the budget,” Sault MPP David Orazietti said Thursday.
“Despite the fact that there continues to remain a deficit, there are no new tax increases in this budget,” Orazietti said. “We’ve got a very measured strategic approach to getting back to a balanced budget, and we’re going to get there.”
