Men left Salluit on Monday by boat
Three men have been reported missing in a boat off the northern shore of Nunavik.
They left Salluit on Monday to gather down on Charles Island and to hunt beluga in Wakeham Bay. They were spotted in Deception Bay a few hours later, but have not been seen since.
Early this morning the Joint Rescue Co-ordination Centre in Trenton, Ont., received a call for assistance. Qalingo Angotigirk with the Municipality of Salluit says two of the men are from his community and the other one is from Kuujjuaq.
“We are in a emergency situation,” he said. “We have people waiting at an area which is a safe meeting point but there is ice everywhere and we all just hope we get the men home safe.”
