Squamish Nation Establishes Historic Partnership with Lime, Pioneering Indigenous Mobility Solutions Globally

Squamish Territory, BC (June 7, 2024) – Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Úxwumixw (Squamish Nation) is proud to announce a groundbreaking partnership with Lime, marking the first agreement between a shared micromobility operator and First Nation in Canada. This transformative collaboration signifies Lime’s commitment to fostering inclusive transportation access and community-driven solutions.

Lime will provide critical transportation services to Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Members by deploying its fleet of electric bikes and providing dedicated parking locations in community and nearby areas, offering convenient and eco-friendly mobility options within the community and surrounding areas. As part of Lime’s commitment to accessibility, all Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Members will have access to the Lime Access program, which offers discounted pricing to ensure affordability and inclusivity for riders.

Recognizing the unique mobility challenges faced by First Nation communities, Lime is dedicated to addressing these needs through innovative partnerships and initiatives. The partnership with Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Úxwumixw exemplifies Lime’s mission to prioritise accessibility, sustainability, and community engagement.

To facilitate this effort, Lime will be affixing stickers on all its vehicles, reminding riders of the importance of sidewalk accessibility and the impact of blocked pathways on individuals with disabilities. Additionally, Lime will be reaching out to riders to further educate and encourage responsible riding behaviour. Through these efforts, Lime aims to raise awareness about the need for sidewalk accessibility and foster a community-wide commitment to creating a safer and more inclusive environment for everyone.

Lime provides shared e-bikes and e-scooters in 280 cities in nearly 30 countries as it continues its mission to decarbonize transportation globally and serve as an alternative to car trips. Lime currently operates shared electric vehicles in Richmond, Coquitlam, the North Shore, and Kelowna and is proud to see ridership continue to grow in each of these markets. Lime will continue to look for creative ways to deepen its roots in the community, encourage safe riding and proper parking, and build on the success of the shared e-scooter and e-bike systems in metro Vancouver so far.
